Heroin dealer gets 10 years in prison

There were  emotional scenes in Scottburgh District Court 2 on August 23, when Abongile Jigane was sentenced to 10 years in prison for dealing in 916 straws of heroin.

Ms Jigane had pleaded not guilty to the charge, stating that the heroin, that had been discovered in a plastic bag hidden behind her bed, belonged to a friend who had asked her to keep the drugs while the friend went shopping at Galleria in Amanzimtoti.

Acting on a tip-off, police from SAPS Umkomaas had arrested the unnamed friend, who had then pointed out Ms Jigane’s house to them.

Ms Jigane recently gave birth to a baby daughter while in custody in Westville Prison.

The baby has been placed in the care of Ms Jigane’s mother.
