Mr NN Naidoo, the Principal of St Francis Primary School, received the National Teacher Award for Primary School Leadership. He received the award from Education MEC M Dungwana at the Provincial awards ceremony held at the Olive Conference Centre in Durban. Being placed third out of twelve districts in KZN province is indeed an honour for St Francis Primary.
Naidoo explained that having been nominated, he participated in various stages in the selection process.
The criteria focussed on what the participant had done at leadership level to improve and enhance the educational betterment of learners. At regional level at Ugu he was placed first and at the coastal cluster level, competing with four other districts, he was placed first.
Finally at provincial level, with twelve districts competing he was placed third by an independent panel from the Department of Education .
At the regional and provincial levels participants were required to give a fifteen minute power point presentation followed by a twenty minute interview.
“It is indeed an honour for St Francis Primary School to receive an award which reflects on the school’s good leadership,” said a community leader. Mr Naidoo stated that this was a collective achievement as he was indebted to his hard-working staff, the support of the SGB and the guidance from the Department of Education.
