A lower-south-coast mother received a report from her daughter’s school that the 12-year-old child’s academic performance was declining and that this was a matter of concern.
As the learner lived with her maternal aunt and uncle in Amandawe, the mother paid them a visit and established that she had allegedly been repeatedly abused by her uncle during August this year.
The mother reported the matter to the Scottburgh SAPS on 20 November and a case of rape was registered and transferred to the Umzinto Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) for investigation.
The case docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Mondli Shinga who arrested the suspect on Thursday, 14 December.
The 61-year-old suspect appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on December 18, on a charge of rape.
