Frustrated job seekers protest in Craigieburn

Apprehensive work-seekers at Craigieburn municipal depot.

A group of unemployed work-seekers gathered at the Aloe Street municipal depot in Craigieburn and protested that their appeals for employment had been ignored.

They expected to be employed by municipal contractor, Raubex, which is resurfacing the roads in Craigieburn.

Spokesperson for the unemployed, Sphiwe Mnguni, stated that the people are frustrated that only certain connected persons are given work.

Some people alleged that when they requested assistance from Councillor Gumede of Ward 99, she told them to go to Cyril Ramaphosa or to Zweli Mkhize.

In response to a query from the Rising Sun, Councillor Gumede denied the allegations.

Unemployment is a huge problem and when 22 people are hired, the 20 others in the job queue feel deprived and frustrated.
