Umdoni Circuit hosts inaugural matric awards presentation

Umdoni Circuit, under the leadership of Circuit Manager, Mr KP Reddy, together with the principals of the circuit, hosted an awards presentation ceremony at The House of The Rising Sun in Park Rynie on Friday, April 20.

The function was attended by the mayor, Cllr WT Dube as the Guest of Honour, officials from the Ugu Distrct Office, circuit managers under the leadership of Ms N Sethole from Scottburgh CMC, principals, matric educators and sponsors.

The purpose of the event was to honour individual educators who had attained a 100% pass rate in their respective subjects in their schools, to celebrate schools which earned top honours in the various categories and to recognise the dedicated service of all primary school principals.

In his address, Mr Reddy outlined the vision for the circuit and the benchmarks for the high schools to achieve.

He called on the primary school principals to lay a solid foundation in the children’s formative years so that the high schools could produce good results. Mayor Dube lavished praise on the achievements of the circuit.

A former educator himself, he pledged the continued support of the municipality for the education sector. Among the various issues mentioned, he stressed learner and educator discipline. Apart from the educators, who were individually rewarded for having attained 100% pass rate in their respective subjects, many prestigious awards were awarded to the schools.

Among the various winners were: Top Achieving School – Scottburgh High [Sponsor – KMS Insurers] Most Improved School – Sihle High [Sponsor – Halfway Toyota Malanda] Best Performing School [Q 4-5] – Umzinto Secondary Best Performing School [Q 1-3] -Sihle High 100% in 8 different subjects – Roseville Secondary. Mr N N Naidoo, principal of St Francis Primary, was honoured for achieving 3rd place in the KZN Provincial Finals of the National Teachers Awards for Outstanding Leadership.

The planning committee expressed its gratitude to its main sponsors, among others, the Rising Sun, KMS Insurers, Halfway Toyota Malanda, Mohammed Amla of Syms, and Sasol Garage, Umzinto.
