THE LIONS CLUB of Scottburgh handed over a newly-built shelter to Ward 10 Councillor Shara Singh at the TC Robertson Nature Reserve on Wednesday, May 2.
The shelter was sponsored by P&G Construction and C-Thru Glass and Aluminium, through the initiative of the Scottburgh Lions.
Speaking at the handover, District Governor, Ken Toward, commended the Scottburgh Lions and urged them on to continue doing good for the community.
He noted that the shelter would be a great attraction next summer and is also a monument to the Lions and to Mr Eddie Donaldson, who has been a member of the Lions for 50 years.
Cllr Singh cut the ribbon and accepted the shelter on behalf of Umdoni Municipality, noting that everyone has a role to play in uplifting the community and organisations such as the Lions do much for the community.
She wished the organisation well and pledged to support the reserve where possible.
The shelter, which was built over two months, is a much needed addition to the beautiful reserve and it is hoped that this gesture will attract the support of more sponsors for the work at the reserve.
Peter Bartie, a volunteer at the reserve, also thanked the Lions and emphasized the need for sponsors to assist at the reserve.
