Two men died and one was taken to hospital after a stabbing in Malangeni. Umzinto SAPS responded to a report of a murder near Nyuswa bus stop in Malangeni on Saturday, July 26 at about 6am. Police arrived at the scene to find a group of people gathered around a man who was lying dead on the roadside.
He had sustained a stab wound to his chest. Further investigations at the scene led police to another body nearby with a stab wound in the stomach. Attending paramedics pronounced the victims dead at the scene. The bodies were removed to the Park Rynie State mortuary. The deceased were identified as Bongani Nogaga (32) and Sphumelele Dlamini (32). It was subsequently established that a third victim had also been stabbed and was taken to the G.J. Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh prior to police arrival at the scene. A 25-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Umzinto Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 30. He faces two charges of murder and one of attempted murder.
The double murder and attempted murder cases have been assigned to Detective Sergeant Phumlile Harriet Khumalo of the Umzinto SAPS Detective Service for investigation. The motive for the killings is yet to be established.
