On Monday morning we had a call from a concerned resident reporting what they believe to be a wild animal caught in a snare in the forest along the Mzinto River, on the Kelso side of the R102.
After making a number of calls to various authorities, with absolutely no success, we called for the help of locals who responded.
Sadly, they could not establish where the cries of distress were coming from, nor could they get through the very thick bush to conduct a search.
The Pennington Conservancy would therefore like to gather a team of people who are prepared to undertake the following on behalf of the Pennington Community:
• Identify where and how to access the area (i.e. existing paths / create pathways);
• Conduct monthly exploratory walks to locate and remove snares;
• Be on call to assist with any animals in distress; and / or Respond to reports of hunting teams with dogs.
