Full figure women called to enter competition

NOSIZWE MBUNQUKA from Umgababa plans to host a Miss Full Figure beauty pageant later this year.

The first phase of the contest will take place at the Scottburgh Mall on August 9 where the top 15 finalists will be chosen from the top 30.

The actual pageant will take place in November.

This will be her second attempt at hosting this pageant as she hosted one last year at Umgababa, but the response was disappointing. She is hoping that this time she will attract more contestants and is therefore calling on all young, full-figured ladies to participate.

Nosizwe is part of Nkondlo Phumelela which is a non-profit organisation.

“I personally participated in the Miss Round Figure Pageant while I was in Cape Town and was its ambassadress. That gave me the confidence to be able to get past my fears of being self-conscious about my weight.

“That is what I want to achieve with the young women who will participate in this pageant. I want to teach them confidence so that they know they are beautiful despite their full figures. I want to change the perception that one has to be thin to be beautiful. Full-figured girls need to love themselves, to be comfortable in their own bodies and be confident enough to face the world.

After the pageant I want each and every one of them to have gained from the experience and to go out there and make something of their lives,” said Nosizwe.

Contestants can send a full, as well as a half, photograph of themselves to [email protected] or contact Nosizwe on 073-357-8916 or visit the Facebook page Miss Full Figure for more information.
