About Rising Sun Mid South Coast
The Rising Sun Community Newspaper group was established in 1986 with the North Coast paper. The Mid South Coast was started shortly thereafter, in 1989, as an A5 mini ads type publication It wasn't long before a decision was made that it should become a newspaper. In 1993, the Chatsworth Rising Sun was born - at first it was a monthly publication, then in 1994 it went fortnightly. By 1995, it was firmly established as a successful weekly. In January, 1997, the North Coast Rising Sun was sold off, and in its place, the Phoenix Sun was born.
The Merebank paper was introduced in 1999 and in 2000 Overport went on stream. From the initial print order of 6 500, the group now prints a total of 281 933 newspapers a week, distributed to homes all along the coast from Phoenix in the North to Ifafa in the south.
In 2003, the group entered into a partnership with the Caxton Newspaper Group's Highway Mail Limited. Currently, the combined stable circulates 447 261 copies weekly.
